The story
The Air Jordan 13, Tinker Hatfield's 1997 panther-inspired design, gets its most craft-forward makeover yet: black denim twill replaces the usual quilted panels, finished with distressed X-shaped embroidery for a handmade look, and WINGS branding worked into the tongue and hidden graphics.
The Wings name ties the shoe to Jordan Brand's long-running community and scholarship program, giving this drop a purpose-driven angle beyond the material flex. It lands in a stacked AJ13 year headlined by the returning 'Flint,' and the Thursday SNKRS-exclusive slot signals tighter quantities than a Saturday retro.
Triple-black denim Jordans are polarizing, which usually caps resale, but the limited SNKRS-only distribution and collector interest in oddball 13s should keep it above retail early. A sleeper for wearers rather than flippers.
The deep cuts
- The black denim outer layer is removable — peel it away and a hidden laser-etched graphic sits underneath. Two shoes in one.
- Jordan Brand's WINGS scholarship program, founded 2015, has backed more than 2,800 students — the brand marked its 10th anniversary with a dedicated AJ5 'Wings' in 2025.
- The AJ13's green holographic 'eye' recreates a cat's gaze — a nod to MJ's 'Black Cat' nickname — over a then-novel carbon fiber plate with Zoom Air.
- Denzel Washington wore the AJ13 in Spike Lee's He Got Game (1998); the white/black colorway is now officially named after the movie — a rare case of a film renaming a sneaker.
