The story
Tinker Hatfield's 1990 Air Jordan 5 introduced midsole 'shark teeth' flames inspired by the WWII P-51 Mustang fighter plane, plus the clear icy outsole — a perfect canvas for glow-in-the-dark tricks. Hard as it is to believe, this is the first Halloween-themed Air Jordan 5 ever — and it lands a week before the holiday.
This one goes near-triple-black with Picante Red flames, green '23' and Nike Air heel accents, reflective details and a full glow outsole — spooky-season bait that still works as a winter black shoe.
Seasonal 5s historically sit near retail but sell through fully by October 31; glow outsoles keep long-tail demand alive with casual buyers.
The deep cuts
- The 1990 AJ5 was the first basketball shoe with a 3M reflective tongue, paired with its then-novel translucent 'icy' outsole.
- The 2026 pair hides a Frankenstein nod — 'XX' stitching on the inner tongue, plus glow-in-the-dark stitching across the upper.
- Will Smith famously wore his AJ5s laceless on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; Jordan Brand's 2018 'Fresh Prince' NRG tribute shipped without laces and with sealed eyelets.
- That 2018 Fresh Prince release also marked the first return of Nike Air heel branding to the AJ5 since 1990.
