The story
Free The Youth, the Accra-based streetwear collective that grew out of Ghana's skate and creative scene, gets its first Air Jordan collaboration — a multicolor AJ3 that swaps Nike Air heel branding for mint-green 'FTY.' The palette channels West African vibrance onto Tinker Hatfield's 1988 icon.
The rollout follows the modern collab playbook: an exclusive launch through Free The Youth on December 4, then a wider SNKRS/NBHD drop reported for December 11.
Jordan collabs with cultural collectives (Union, Titan, Trophy Room) have consistently outperformed GR retros on the resale market; a first-ever African streetwear-collective AJ3 should command strong premiums and real cultural cachet.
The deep cuts
- FTY was formed in Tema, Ghana in 2013 by Jonathan Coffie, Kelly Foli, Richard 'Maposh' Ormano and Winfred 'Shace' Mensah.
- The collective's Accra flagship on Liberation Road doubles as an office, studio and free workshop space for the city's youth.
- FTY operates as an NGO and creative agency as much as a fashion brand, running youth-empowerment and sustainability programs.
- The official colorway reads Black/Black-Pink Prime-Clear Jade — purple elephant print at the heel, mint-green 'FTY' where Nike Air usually sits.
