The story

No sneaker owns Christmas like the Kobe 6. Kobe debuted the original 'Grinch' on Christmas Day 2010 against the Heat, and its 2020 Protro return became one of Nike's most hunted releases ever. 'Coals' extends the holiday universe: black croc-scale texture treated to look like scattered lumps of coal, with Venom Green fading to Purple Venom on the Swoosh — a 'naughty list' counterpart to the Grinch.

Nike has made the Christmas-window Kobe an annual event, and a December 25 SNKRS drop guarantees maximum theater. The $190 price matches the current Protro standard.

Christmas Kobes are automatic sellouts with top-tier resale velocity; expect this to be the hardest non-Jordan cop of Q4 and a strong long-term hold given the Grinch lineage.

The deep cuts

  • The original Grinch's official Nike colorway name is 'Green Apple' — Green Apple/Black/Volt/Crimson on the box label.
  • Eric Avar designed the Kobe 6, building its scaled 'islands' texture as a literal Black Mamba snakeskin tribute.
  • The Grinch Protro returned December 24, 2020 (CW2190-300) as the first Kobe 6 to get the Protro treatment.
  • Nike extended the Grinch universe with 2023's 'Reverse Grinch' — the Coals keeps the annual Christmas-Kobe storyline rolling.
